Being Liberal and a Progressive in a RED STATE is not an easy thing these days. I started this blog to vent my frustrations on our lives being taken over by right wing conservatives with their propaganda machines. I have also learned an important lesson in the last year, it is that reading is the only way to get real information, you cannot depend on the news you see on TV.
"I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE"....Howard Beale (NETWORK)
FROM CODY:
A few days ago it was reported that the White House had asked the satirical paper The Onion to not use the Presidential Seal in its paper:
Breaking from CNN, Libby to be indicted tomorrow, Rove will be under criminal investigation and the grand jury to be extended.
An internal memo sent to Wal-Mart's board of directors proposes numerous ways to hold down spending on health care and other benefits while seeking to minimize damage to the retailer's reputation. Among the recommendations are hiring more part-time workers and discouraging unhealthy people from working at Wal-Mart.
In the memorandum, M. Susan Chambers, Wal-Mart's executive vice president for benefits, also recommends reducing 401(k) contributions and wooing younger, and presumably healthier, workers by offering education benefits. The memo voices concern that workers with seven years' seniority earn more than workers with one year's seniority, but are no more productive.
To discourage unhealthy job applicants, Ms. Chambers suggests that Wal-Mart arrange for "all jobs to include some physical activity (e.g., all cashiers do some cart-gathering)."
The memo acknowledged that Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, had to walk a fine line in restraining benefit costs because critics had attacked it for being stingy on wages and health coverage. Ms. Chambers acknowledged that 46 percent of the children of Wal-Mart's 1.33 million United States employees were uninsured or on Medicaid.

To borrow a phrase from that era, let me make myself perfectly clear: I'm not saying that Plamegate is the same as Watergate. I'm saying it's worse. Much, much worse. No one died as a result of Watergate, but 2,000 American soldiers have now been killed and thousands more wounded to rid the world of an imminent threat that wasn't.
Could there be anything bigger?
according to Washington Note:
This is just great and a year too late according to CNN:
Rosa Parks Died Tonight
When Rosa Parks refused to get up, an entire race of people began to stand up for their rights as human beings.
It was a simple act that took extraordinary courage in Montgomery, Ala., in 1955. It was a place where black people had no rights white people had to respect. It was a time when racial discrimination was so common, many blacks never questioned it.
Patrick J. Fitzgerald has just opened up a brand new website I wonder what that might mean?
Senate proposals to raise the minimum wage were rejected Wednesday, making it unlikely that the lowest allowable wage, $5.15 an hour since 1997, will rise in the foreseeable future.

The city's rich and well-connected were tipped off to last week's subway terror threat days before average New Yorkers, the Daily News has learned.
At least two E-mails revealing the purported plot were sent to a select crowd of business and arts executives early last week by New Yorkers who claimed to have close connections to Homeland Security and other federal officials, authorities said.
The NYPD confirmed that it learned of the E-mails on Oct. 3 - three days before Mayor Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and the FBI went public with the threat.
A 4,000-year-old bowl of noodles unearthed in China is the earliest example ever found of one of the world's most popular foods, scientists reported today. It also suggests an Asian—not Italian—origin for the staple dish.
But we have to agree with the Washington Post's Jim VandeHei, who called that live presidential telebriefing with troops in Tikrit just "bizarre."
VandeiHei: "It seemed very staged."
....But mostly, awkward, stilted exchanges. CNN, MSNBC and Fox News Channel carried it live. We think the Daily Show will have a month's worth of fodder.....
update:
WH Pool Report: Soldiers Knew Questions In Advance
Well, obviously.
WH Pooler Geoff Earle of the New York Post writes of the teleconference: "The soldiers, nine U.S. men and one U.S. woman, plus an Iraqi, had been tipped off in advance about the questions in the highly scripted event. Allison Barber, deputy assistant to the Secretary of Defense for internal communication, could be heard asking one soldier before the start of the event, "Who are we going to give that [question] to?"
I am so sick of Public School and teachers after 24 years of dealing with such. Tonight my last child, senior in High School told me an assistant principal had read his online blog and told him to either clean it up or not get a "gold card" a stupid incentive they started this year that supposedly gleans the good kids from the bad kids. The bad kids: Ones who forget or lose their ID cards, are late to school and various other infractions that are subject to not being able to get a hall pass go to the bathroom or get to go to lunch. What an idiotic plan. What do you teachers want, the kids to wet their pants? Oh by the way weren't you the ones sending out the notes that kids need nutrition to do well on tests and other educational stuff, (Dear Parents, make sure your child eats a good meal today as we will be testing and good nutrition makes for a better testing atmosphere.) Ok you idiots I always feed my child, but it appears that you will take away his lunch if he forgets his ID. Kind of of stupid if you ask me.
What the hell are you doing reading his blog and making judgment calls about taking his lunch and his bathroom privileges away, for writing his private thoughts. A blog may be out there for everyone to see, but should have no bearing on anything he is judged on at school
It seems that what I can discern from what he tells me you are a bunch of hypocritical republicans that want to change his very nature and views. I can tell you right now your effort is fruitless. You would think you would be happy that he has never been in trouble in High School and never had a detention. What else do you want? Leave the shaping of his views to me and his father, teach him facts not opinions and the collision of our two worlds will be a lot less ominous.

From Raw Story:
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) asserts that Cheney's options -- worth $241,498 a year ago -- are now valued at more than $8 million. The former CEO of the oil and gas services juggernaut, Cheney has pledged to give proceeds to charity.
.....“Halliburton has already raked in more than $10 billion from the Bush-Cheney Administration for work in Iraq, and they were awarded some of the first Katrina contracts," Lautenberg said in a statement. "It is unseemly for the Vice President to continue to benefit from this company at the same time his Administration funnels billions of dollars to it. The Vice President should sever his financial ties to Halliburton once and for all.....”

Just reported on the same bogus story about Santorum and Bono, don't they vett their stories before reporting? I can't believe they just did that!
This is the most disgusting News organization on the net News Max.Com
On Sunday, October 16, a truly unique political event will take place.
Teaming up with the legendary rock group U2 for a one-night only appearance will be Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Penn.).
The thousand-dollar-a-seat concert has been put together by Sean and Ana Wolfington and will take place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia in support of Santorum's re-election, reports NewsMax's James Hirsen.
I found out the truth here:
What this really is: from National Review's The Corner:
SANTORUM & BONO: A CORRECTION [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
That Newsmax item was misleading. Since linking to that I've checked it with the campaign: Bono has not endorsed the Santorum campaign, he is not doing a fundraiser for Santorum. A couple bought a box at a U2 concert and are using the purchase as a Santorum fundraiser. But it's totally independent of Bono or U2.

I just heard on MSNBC that American aid was arriving in Pakistan to help the earthquake victims. That's wonderful but it seems like in America aid takes 5 days! How can that be?
Going down I hope:
Lawyer Patrick Murphy and five other veterans of the Iraq war are asking questions about President Bush's policies in Iraq as part of their broader Democratic campaigns to win congressional seats in next year's elections.
How scary is this, the state of Indiana wants a law that says only married people can use medical science to conceive a child:

When asked if our troops may have died in vain in Iraq General Casey answered:
The invasion of Iraq was the “greatest strategic disaster in United States history,” a retired Army general said yesterday, strengthening an effort in Congress to force an American withdrawal beginning next year., Retired Army Lt. Gen. William Odom, a Vietnam veteran, said the invasion of Iraq alienated America's Middle East allies, making it harder to prosecute a war against terrorists.
The U.S. should withdraw from Iraq, he said, and reposition its military forces along the Afghan-Pakistani border to capture Osama bin Laden and crush al Qaeda cells.
