Being Liberal and a Progressive in a RED STATE is not an easy thing these days. I started this blog to vent my frustrations on our lives being taken over by right wing conservatives with their propaganda machines. I have also learned an important lesson in the last year, it is that reading is the only way to get real information, you cannot depend on the news you see on TV.

Thousands Protest Bush Visit in Salt Lake City

From Raw Story:

During a rally held in Salt Lake City yesterday, thousands cheered Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson as he blasted George Bush as a "dishonest, war-mongering, human-rights-violating president."

The protest against Bush's Iraq war policies was held prior to the president's arrival Wednesday night in Salt Lake City to give a speech to the national convention of the American Legion this morning.

Utah is considered to be the "reddest" state, showing that there is growing debate about the Iraq war even in friendly Bush territory.

....Earlier today, Anderson told MSNBC that he was a "gracious person" but that "we all have a moral responsibility to stand up and oppose our president when we see him taking our nation in such a wrong direction....."

Conspiracy of Silence

I read about this awhile back but couldn't find the video anywhere, it is now available on You Tube and should be watched by all it is 55 minutes and here is a short description of what it is about:

Conspiracy of Silence”, a documentary listed for viewing in TV Guide Magazine was to be aired on the Discovery Channel, on May 3, 1994. This documentary exposed a network of religious leaders and Washington politicians who flew children to Washington D.C. for sex orgies. Many children suffered the indignity of wearing nothing but their underwear and a number displayed on a piece of cardboard hanging from their necks when being auctioned off to foreigners in Las Vegas, Nevada and Toronto, Canada. At the last minute before airing, unknown congressmen threatened the TV Cable industry with restrictive legislation if this documentary was aired. Almost immediately, the rights to the documentary were purchased by unknown persons who had ordered all copies destroyed. A copy of this videotape was furnished anonymously to former Nebraska state senator and attorney John De Camp who made it available to retired F.B.I. chief, Ted L. Gunderson. While the video quality is not top grade, this tape is a blockbuster in what is revealed by the participants involved.

Bush Meets With Republican Good Ol' Boy, But Not Sheehan

....A grieving mother, who gave her only son fighting in a war started by this president and she wants a meeting with him? Tough luck and have a nice summer, said Team Bush.....

.....Vaccarella said he wanted to thank Bush for what little help has come to Katrina victims, but also said that he was coming because he didn’t want the federal government and President Bush "to forget about us."

Lo and behold, Bush decided to take the meeting. Oh, you should also know that, while he didn't lose a child in Iraq or anything, Rockey is a Bush supporter who once ran as a Republican candidate for the St. Bernard Parish Council......

Canada Here I Come

It looks like the military is so over extended that some are saying the next step will be a draft. Sorry America, you can't have my kid, not while we have an insane madman as President who doesn't mind sending in other people's children (why aren't Jenna and Babs there?) to die for a cause no one can even articulate the reason for:

An Iraq War veterans group says the call-up of thousands of Marines from the Individual Ready Reserve, announced by the Pentagon today, is "one of the last steps before resorting to a draft."

"This move should serve as a wake-up call to America," said Jon Soltz, an Army captain who served in Iraq and heads the group VoteVets.org, which raises funds for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans running for Congress. "Today's announcement that thousands of Marines in the Individual Ready Reserve will be called back to go to Iraq is proof that our military is overextended, and there is no plan for victory in Iraq."

Is the Next Step a Draft?

He's Not an "Oil Man" but a "Gas Man"

Animal House in the West Wing

He loves to cuss, gets a jolly when a mountain biker wipes out trying to keep up with him, and now we're learning that the first frat boy loves flatulence jokes. A top insider let that slip when explaining why President Bush is paranoid around women, always worried about his behavior. But he's still a funny, earthy guy who, for example, can't get enough of fart jokes. He's also known to cut a few for laughs, especially when greeting new young aides, but forget about getting people to gas about that.

The Real Macaca

According to TPM Cafe :

VA-SEN: Poll: Allen's Lead Over Webb Shrinks To Three Points

GOP incumbent Senator George Allen's "Macaca" remarks have turned the contest with Dem challenger James Webb into a real race. An exclusive Survey USA poll done for WUSA-TV shows that Allen's once-double-digit lead over Webb has shriveled to three points -- 48% to 45%. From the WUSA analysis: "Allen has lost support across all demographic groups, but in particular, among younger voters, he has gone from Plus 23 to Minus 17, a swing of 40 points. In Southeastern VA, Allen has gone from a 2:1 lead to a tie, a 31-point swing." Don't mess with Macaca!

This Takes the Cake

Our local newspaper has a really stupid part called "Its Your Call" and the stupidest of the stupid use it to vent their opinions because unlike letters to the editor you don't have to sign your name. Today's took the cake of all I have read:

Soaked festival goer

It never fails. When will they ever learn about how to schedule the Trails West! festival? Every year, I bring in family from out of town and plan on going to Trails West! and they always schedule it on a weekend that has a bunch of rain! When will these people wake up and start scheduling this for a weekend that's not supposed to rain? I give up, I'm going to boycott it from now on. All I ever do is go down there and get soaked and have to come back home.

Fox News and What They Don't Say

I hate Fox News but always watch a few shows like The Beltway Boys, Fox News Watch and sometimes I watch Brit Hume. I think it is always good to know what and how they are reporting and what their talking points are.

Tonight on Beltway Boys they talked about George Felix Allen and his "Macaca" statement. What they didn't tell anyone was the meaning of the word. They sat there and said nobody had any idea what the word meant.

What a bunch of liars. So if you only watch Fox you have no idea that it meant monkey and was a racial slur in certain areas.

Rob Cordry gets it right in this clip from The Daily Show

"

Was Allen subliminally sending a message to other racists that I'm on your side? He knew he was being filmed and he can't be stupid. I think it is a little scary if you ask me!

Bush Bunch Happy over Foiled Terrorist Attack

It looks like the White House is just gleeful tonight over the foiled terrorist attack:

But Bush's Republicans hoped the raid would yield political gains.

"I'd rather be talking about this than all of the other things that Congress hasn't done well," one Republican congressional aide told AFP on condition of anonymity because of possible reprisals.

"Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big," said another White House official, who also spoke on condition of not being named, adding that some Democratic candidates won't "look as appealing" under the circumstances.

Bush seeks political gains from foiled plot

Bill O'Reilly Calls for a Draft

From Bill O'Reilly.com:

The United States needs a new strategy to deal with this ominous threat. Slugging it out in Iraq may be necessary, but there might be another way. President Bush needs to level with the American people and begin putting this country on a war footing. That means a limited draft and a major commitment to defense. The President needs to shake things up and get people's attention.

Yea right, just watch the people take to the streets if that happened. 60% of the people now say the war wasn't worth it, but they only have to deal with it maybe a half hour a day when they watch their local news, while going about their business the other 23 1/2. Can you imagine the outrage it they had to send their sons and daughters or had to go themselves. Bye Bye Republicans!

Bullshit School

After watching Chertoff tonight on Lou Dobbs, SO and I have come to the conclusion that the main quality Bush looks for in appointing anyone to his cabinet or positions in the goverment is to make sure they went to Bullshit School.

Rove Calls Lieberman?

That's what ABC's George Stephanopoulos reports.

According to a close Lieberman adviser, the President's political guru, Karl Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the Oval Office: "The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do."
We haven't been able to get independent confirmation of this just yet.

Bye Bye Joe

This Would Save us Two Years of Misery

Without Reservation

This is a must read op-ed from Military Week.com :

Without reservation

by Karen Kwiatkowski, Ph.D., Lt. Col. USAF (ret.)

some excepts:

...The veto, as Bush explained in a public ceremony framed by chattering toddlers, was done to prevent American taxpayers from being “… compelled to fund the deliberate destruction of human embryos.'...

...Science and ethics are two areas where George W. Bush cannot be accused of knowing too much, thinking too deeply, nor retaining even a shadow of personal humility....

...But the logic of this veto and Bush's other actions in the past few weeks, and years, is worthy of examination. This is beyond lame duck. It may be the story of the lame dodo in the White House....

...Sadly, illogically and wickedly, Bush means to preserve only the lives of those Americans who cannot speak, cannot move, and cannot think. This intent is evidenced by federal legislation Bush supported that was passed to preserve the comatose life of a single individual in a single state – one of 300 million Americans, as well as in his recent veto to preserve several hundred embryos stored in freezers across the country.

If you can speak and move, as can Iraqis and Afghans, and you opppose the puppet governments and occupation armies the American military have imposed, then your lives are not worth preserving, or protecting.

Baby Talk

Apparently some readers were outraged at this cover of babytalk magazine. I am amazed that some people in our society are still offended by a baby nursing:

"I was SHOCKED to see a giant breast on the cover of your magazine," one person wrote. "I immediately turned the magazine face down," wrote another. "Gross," said a third. These readers weren't complaining about a sexually explicit cover, but rather one of a baby nursing, on a wholesome parenting magazine — yet another sign that Americans are squeamish over the sight of a nursing breast, even as breast-feeding itself gains greater support from the government and medical community.

Pathetic Wingnut Punditry

According to Media Matters Neal Boortz stated this on his radio show:

If you are a grown adult in this country who is not suffering from some hideous physical or mental disability, and you are trying to raise children on the minimum wage, then you are a 100 percent pure unadulterated loser. And I am so sick and damned tired of all those left-wing bedwetters and sympathy pimps out there -- passing -- just moaning over these people who have squandered their American birthright by becoming just the dregs of socie[ty]-- and then -- I'm just so sick of it I could scream. OK, calm down.

Kansas Gets it Right

Conservative Republicans who brought international attention to Kansas by approving academic standards calling evolution into question lost control of the state school board in primaries.

As a result of the vote, board members and candidates who believe evolution is well-supported by evidence will have a 6-4 majority. Evolution skeptics had entered the election with a 6-4 majority.

Evolution opponents lose control of Kansas school board

New Minimum Wage a Joke

The bill to increase the minimum wage put out by the wingnuts actually decreases the wage earned by the lowest paid workers:

....A provision in GOP-written minimum wage legislation passed by the House and under consideration this week by the Senate could change the law in those seven states - the others are Montana, Alaska, Minnesota and Oregon. It would deal a pay cut of $3 or more an hour to thousands of waiters, bellhops and hairdressers in those states, according to Democrats and labor groups.....

Workers' tips at issue in congressional minimum-wage bill

I Sure Hope So!!!!!!!!!

Charlie Cook is predicting an electoral rout by the dems in November.

From the DCCC:

With fewer than 100 days left before the Nov. 7 election, certain assumptions can now be made, contingent upon the absence of a cataclysmic event.

First, the political climate will be extremely hostile to Republican candidates. Second, while Republicans benefited from turnout in 2002 and 2004, this time voter turnout will benefit Democratic candidates. And third, the advantages that the GOP usually has in national party spending will be significantly less than normal.

In terms of the political climate, the facts are clear. All of the traditional diagnostic indicators in major national polls taken in the past 10 days show numbers consistent with an electoral rout.

New Camp Casey

Camp Casey August 6th-Sept 2nd 2006

How Funny!!

I bet Bush loves this:

Like many folks in President Bush's adopted hometown, 83-year-old Robert Westerfield isn't exactly rolling out the welcome mat for the town's newest resident, war protester Cindy Sheehan.

"I'd wish they'd go away and never come back," Westerfield, a lifelong Crawford resident, said Friday while sitting on a bench outside a gas station on Main Street. "I wish she'd stay away. Crawford's a Republican town, and she's a dumb Democrat."

Sheehan, whose monthlong war protest near Bush's ranch last summer attracted more than 10,000 demonstrators, recently bankrolled the purchase of a 5-acre parcel near downtown to be used for future protests, including one next month.

McCaskill Leads in New Poll

Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill (D) has moved ahead of Senator Jim Talent (R) in the latest Rasmussen Reports election survey to lead the incumbent 45% to 42% (see crosstabs). The candidates were tied at 42% in our survey last month.

While a 3-point lead for the challenger is well within the survey’s margin of sampling error, it is a concern for any incumbent to be so far below the 50% level of support at this point in the campaign

Missouri Senate: McCaskill Moves Ahead

Where is the Outrage

With gas prices, the mess in the middle east, a lying, cheating, insane man in the Whitehouse, it is just unbelievable that there is no outrage anymore. I think we all need to look back to the 70's when people took to the streets and actually changed society. I wonder what DC would do if a couple of million of us showed up at this:

Can you name the one country on earth where the government can steal elections, strip away basic rights, spy on citizens, and launch wars based on lies, but where the people do not take over the nation's capital in protest?
