I was about to write some really mean things like, "good riddance to bad rubbish" or "don't let the door hit you in the butt" when it occurred to me that I really shouldn’t be that harsh towards you. Especially because most of your legacy will be a good thing for the Democratic Party, but it comes at too high a price to feel happy about.

You leave behind a conservative movement that is shattered and discredited. Your ambition for a permanent Republican majority has turned into what will hopefully be a generational shift to the Democrats. I guess lying, cheating and breaking the law doesn’t always get you what you want.

You have managed to divide us into blues and reds more so than anytime in American history since the Civil War. You have poisoned our politics with religion and religion with politics. You have misused and abused and trashed our Constitution and turned the executive branch into the only branch of our government.

Your use of the F-word over and over and over again is the only weapon you have to keep us from protesting that our liberties are being taken away one by one. Just throw a little bit of FEAR out there and you know what happens. You’re a smart guy, right? Isn’t that how you got your boy re-elected in 2004?

Your dream of having served a wartime president who would be as revered someday as Abraham Lincoln is about as fractured as the country you helped to invade. Against all the advice of those who actually knew the consequences of the invasion you and your boss did it anyway. But it was just too tempting wasn’t it, oh the history, the books that would be written (and your name would be in them). Your guy would be the one who would bring democracy throughout the Middle East, even though you were told it couldn’t be done. It is almost mind numbing to think of the cost in blood and treasure.

And so boy genius, architect, turd blossom, brain of the worst president in the history of America, I have always wanted to ask you this: “Can you actually sleep at night?”
