Being Liberal and a Progressive in a RED STATE is not an easy thing these days. I started this blog to vent my frustrations on our lives being taken over by right wing conservatives with their propaganda machines. I have also learned an important lesson in the last year, it is that reading is the only way to get real information, you cannot depend on the news you see on TV.

By the Way

The Bush piece last night with his look alike double at the White House Correspondents' Dinner was absolutely hilarious too. Just so I don't look like a person who doesn't give credit where credit is due. Whoever thought that up was brilliant.

Colbert Rips Bush

From Editor and Publisher:

A blistering comedy “tribute” to President Bush by Comedy Central’s faux talk show host Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondent Dinner Saturday night left George and Laura Bush unsmiling at its close.

......
As Colbert walked from the podium, when it was over, the president and First Lady gave him quick nods, unsmiling, and left immediately......

Stephen Colbert Wins the Award

My Award anyway:

Colbert Does a Jon Stewart

Stephen Colbert just did to the White House Correspondents' Dinner what Jon Stewart did to Crossfire. He gave it to them good. If you didn't see the show they are showing it again tomorrow. It was great. It is on C-span.

Here are some of the best zingers:

I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things, like aircraft carriers, rubble and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong mesasge that no matter what happens to America she will always rebound with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world!

Write that novel you've got kicking around in your head--you know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the Administration--you know, fiction!

[Jesse Jackson] is a very challenging interview... It's like boxing a glacier. Enjoy that metaphor by the way because your grandchildren will have no idea what a glacier is.

Mayor Nagin is here from New Orleans, the Chocolate City... Mayor Nagin, I'd like to welcome you to Washington D.C., the Chocolate City with a marshmallow center... and a graham cracker crust of corruption.

Pimps

We give you a hundred bucks and then we get to drill in Anwr:

Senators to push for $100 gas rebate checks

Most American taxpayers would get $100 rebate checks to offset the pain of higher pump prices for gasoline, under an amendment Senate Republicans hope to bring to a vote Thursday.

However, the GOP energy package may face tough sledding because it also includes a controversial proposal to open part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil exploration, which most Democrats and some moderate Republicans oppose.

Why Conservatives are Scary Creatures

From The Conservative Weekly Human Events Online is their list of the ten most harmful government programs in America, some of which are:

1. Social Security
2. Medicare
3. Income tax
5.
Contraceptive Funding
7. Medicaid
8. Affirmative Action
9. Davis-Bacon Act

If the average American just realized the true Republican agenda of doing away with Social Security and all entitlement programs, making all abortions and contraception illegal, and by all means getting rid of any minimum wage rules there is no way they would vote for conservatives.

New Song from Neil Young -- Impeach the President

From Good ol' Fox News:

Neil Young Song Lyrics

Let’s Impeach the President”

Let’s impeach the president for lying

And leading our country into war

Abusing all the power that we gave him

And shipping all our money out the door

He’s the man who hired all the criminals

The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors

And bend the facts to fit with their new stories

Of why we have to send our men to war

Let’s impeach the president for spying

On citizens inside their own homes

Breaking every law in the country

By tapping our computers and telephones

What if Al Qaeda blew up the levees

Would New Orleans have been safer that way

Sheltered by our government’s protection

Or was someone just not home that day?

Let’s impeach the president

For hijacking our religion and using it to get elected

Dividing our country into colors

And still leaving black people neglected

Thank god he’s racking down on steroids

Since he sold his old baseball team

There’s lot of people looking at big trouble

But of course the president is clean

Thank God

Worst Preznut EVAH!!

Here is the link to the Rolling Stone Article that was their cover story:

Historian Sean Wilentz makes the case in Rolling Stone: "George W. Bush's presidency appears headed for colossal historical disgrace. Barring a cataclysmic event on the order of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, after which the public might rally around the White House once again, there seems to be little the administration can do to avoid being ranked on the lowest tier of U.S. presidents. And that may be the best-case scenario. Many historians are now wondering whether Bush, in fact, will be remembered as the very worst president in all of American history."

How Low Can He Go?

Bushie Baby has new low from Fox:

More Americans disapprove than approve of how George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and Congress are doing their jobs, while a majority approves of Condoleezza Rice. President Bush’s approval hits a record low of 33 percent this week, clearly damaged by sinking support among Republicans.

Does it scare anyone else that we have this insane man as our leader?

Blue America

Well it looks like we are starting to live in BLUE America according to the Bush approval ratings. Only 4 states show Bush at 50% or above, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska and Idaho. He comes in at 30% and below in 10 states, all the way down to 24% in Rhode Island:

What Can I Do After I'm Impeached?

Mess-opotamia

A new poll of leaders of Iraqi women's-rights groups finds that women were treated better and their civil rights were more secure under deposed President Saddam Hussein than under the faltering and increasingly sectarian U.S.-installed government.

This is doubly troubling. It's troubling first, because the Bush administration used the issue of women to justify its now widely criticized invasion of Iraq in part by promising to improve the situation of women.

Iraqi women's plight worsens

Moving Backward -- The New Segregation

America proceeds to move backward. It just seems like all those things fought for in the 60's and 70's are slowly being flushed down the toliet. I guess we will all have to fight the fight all over again one of these days:

Omaha schools split along racial lines

In a move some decried as state-sponsored segregation, the Legislature voted Thursday to divide the Omaha school system into three districts -- one mostly black, one predominantly white and one largely Hispanic.

Supporters, including the idea's sponsor and the Legislature's lone black senator, said the plan would give minorities control over the school board and ensure that schoolchildren aren't shortchanged in favor of white students.

Opponents said it was nothing but state-sanctioned segregation.

Big Magazine

This massive picture, as seen from Google Earth.
A massive picture of Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, so big it can be seen from space, is gracing the dusty desert outside Las Vegas.

Maxim magazine has recreated an old cover image of the sexy star on a 33-metre-by-23-metre vinyl-mesh screen to celebrate its 100th issue.

The picture, which is so big that satellites are able to photograph it from space, took nine workers more than 15 hours to build.

Worst President Ever in History

36%

Just 36 percent of the public approves of Bush's job performance, his lowest-ever rating in AP-Ipsos polling. By contrast, the president's job approval rating was 47 percent among likely voters just before Election Day 2004 and a whopping 64 percent among registered voters in October 2002.

Missing Link?

Fossil animals found in Arctic Canada provide a snapshot of fish evolving into land animals, scientists say.

The finds are giving researchers a fascinating insight into this key stage in the evolution of life on Earth.

US palaeontologists have published details of the fossil "missing links" in the prestigious journal Nature.

Bush Bashed at Town Hall

From Think Progress:

This morning in Charlotte, a Bush PR event on the war on terror went off-script when a man named Harry Taylor took the microphone.

“‘I feel like despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration,’ Taylor said, standing in a balcony seat and looking down at Bush on stage. ‘And I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and grace to be ashamed of yourself.’”
