Rep. Thomas Reynolds, the Republican campaign chief who collected $100,000 from Mark Foley while concealing the now-retired Florida congressman's email advances to underage pages, gets a major White House boost today for his endangered reelection drive. Just a day after President Bush called the scandal "disgusting," he is sending his wife to help Reynolds raise money in his Buffalo, NY district. Reynolds also faces criticism for lending his chief of staff to Foley last week in an effort to keep Foley's most salacious emails out of public view. Why risk Laura Bush's positive image by sending her into the middle of this mess? That's just how desperate the GOP is feeling these days. And it certainly reinforces White House insistence that party leaders did nothing wrong.
