Being Liberal and a Progressive in a RED STATE is not an easy thing these days. I started this blog to vent my frustrations on our lives being taken over by right wing conservatives with their propaganda machines. I have also learned an important lesson in the last year, it is that reading is the only way to get real information, you cannot depend on the news you see on TV.

Open Letter to Bill Clinton

Dear Bubba,

I have always been among those who are your most loyal fans and defenders. Through it all, up to and including Monica, I have never wavered in my loyalty and support for you and Hillary.

I am now an Obama backer, but also a Yellow Dog Democrat who would stand behind whomever is the nominee of our party. I really, really want to win this year and personally think that Barack Obama would be hard to beat. I have a twenty year old son who has known no other presidential names besides Bush and Clinton and the Dynastic concern of two last names running America for thirty years just doesn’t seem right in an American Democracy. But if Hillary was the nominee of our party, I would not have hesitated for a moment to vote for her in November.

Now I am not so sure. I have watched your vicious attacks on Barack, your angry tirades (really not befitting a former President), your supporters putting out racial overtones against him, making sure everyone knows his middle name is Hussein and that he used drugs as a teen. I am taken aback at the dirty tricks you and your wife are using in this campaign and since I didn’t follow politics in the 1990’s as I do now, have to wonder if some of what Fox News says about you has some truth to it.

All I can ask of you is to please, please, stop this nonsense. I speak for not only myself but many others who are watching this awful, horrible spectacle of a President we all loved who is using the dirty politics of the Republican Party, Karl Rove, and the talking points of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other right leaning pundits that was aimed at you, Gore and McCain for many, many years.

If this continues, and your wife is the nominee of our party, I will not vote in November. Reading what many bloggers are saying I know that there are others out there that agree with me. Just Stop it. Let your wife win on her policies, personality and Presidential qualifications. If that is the case, she might win, if not many of us loyal Dems will refuse to vote.

I gave the Clintons a lot of slack, up through and including Monica Lewinsky. But by 2000 I had put together the old Lainie Guinier double-cross with Hilary's 180 degree about-face on Palestine and the Middle East. It's one thing to be a politician and shift with the wind, but Hilary will drop her oldest friends with no looking back if she thinks it would benefit her politically.

Lainie Guinier was in Hilary's wedding. They had been close since college. When she was nominated for attorney general in the early 90s, the right wing tried to smear her based on her published writings. The smears were wrong but the Clintons turned tail and dropped Guinier. They withdrew her nomination, and they never spoke to her again.

Hilary as a Methodist knows all about the big picture in Palestine. The Methodist church has been working for justice in the area since forever, and Hilary must have been up to date on alternative viewpoints from the usual Israel-right-or-wrong crowd. Her trip to Palestine in the 90s generated controversy. She made a total about-face in order to gain the Senate seat from NY. Now she tows the Likudnik line without question.

Oh yes, and how about her major campaign contributors are health insurance companies? Betraying her stated ideals when she first went about health care reform.

I think she's poison.

I'm also a blue gal in a red state and I still like Hillary. All of us change our minds from time to time, only a fool never does, so what's the problem? The nice thing about Obama is that he doesn't have much of a record so you can't find too many contradictions.
